European Archaeologists in Arabia: Discovering the Kingdom's Heritage
Geoff Bailey gave a lecture on the recent work of the DISPERSE project in SW Saudi Arabia at a meeting of European and Saudi archaeologists and scientists engaged in international collaboration
This was a two-day meeting, held on the 11–12th May, organised by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) in collaboration with the European Diplomatic Missions in Riyadh. It took place at the Exhibition Centre in the National Museum, Riyadh. The meeting was accompanied by a public exhibition of photographs of current field projects, opened by the President of the SCTA, Prince Sultan bin Salman.
Over 20 field projects are currently under way in all parts of the Kingdom, and this is a measure of the very considerable expansion of field activity and international collaboration that has taken place over the past decade, covering all periods from earliest prehistory to the Islamic period.
